Abstract Photography

Want to get crazy creative and learn to “see” in a whole new way? Then it’s time for you to unleash your creative potential through abstract photography! Photography is usually about capturing an image of something that we know and can recognize like people or landscapes. In abstract photography we focus on creating moods and sensations from unique combination of shapes, colors, patterns, light, or motion. It’s the idea of taking your subject and transforming it into something that creates emotion in your viewer, without them necessarily knowing what the subject originally was. Confused? Don’t worry, clearing all that up is what this class is about!

We’ll practice “seeing” abstractions in our everyday environment and then use our cameras to show our interpretations of what we see. You will learn the elements that make up abstract photography and how to pull ideas and inspiration from the things all around us.  You will also learn how to use a variety of photographic techniques to make your art, including motion and pan blurs, flash, long exposures, and using shutter speeds and zoom lenses to create interesting effects.

Learning the art of abstract photography is a great way to expand your creativity, refine your “photographer’s eye”, and create images that are uniquely your own. It will improve not just your ability to make abstract imagery, but all types of images from landscapes to portraits and beyond!
