Lions and Tigers and Bears… and More

Join us for a photography tour of the Spirit of the Hills Wildlife Sanctuary in the northern Black Hills of South Dakota.  The Sanctuary sits on 200 acres of rocky, forested terrain and is currently home to over 300 animals of 40 different species including tigers, leopards, bears, African lions, foxes, mountain lions, coyotes, lynx, an ocelot, a caracal, and myriad domestic animals including dogs, cats, pigs, goats and horses.  This experience will provide you with the opportunity to experience and photograph these animals up close and personal.  During the tour, your instructor will provide tips and techniques for capturing great wildlife photography, how to get great images while working in a controlled environment, as well as information about the animals we will photograph.

Type: Outdoor Workshop

Activity Level: Low to Moderate.  We will be walking throughout the sanctuary for the entire workshop.

Things to Know: There is a $20 admission per person to the sanctuary. Because this is a wildlife sanctuary, we will be shooting through fences for some of the animals.  Your instructor will provide you tips on how best to work around these obstacles.

What to Bring: A good telephoto lens of a minimum length of 150mm (or equivalent) will get a workout here. A good tripod and head will be of benefit. Adding fill flash can also help make the photos really pop but flash is not a requirement.
