Macro and Close-up, HDR, Wildlife, Landscapes and Vistas, DSLR Videography

Fred has been an avid photographer from the day that he first picked up his grandfather’s Kodak 35mm and started capturing images near his home in Memphis, Tennessee. After high school, he was considering the study of photography but ended up pursuing horticulture as a career with a minor in mass communications. After a few years in the industry, he returned to school to become an educator in his chosen field. His camera was never far from his side. He compiled pictorial catalogs of different plant species and captured hundreds of images of the insects, plant diseases, and other plant problems to assist students in their horticultural studies. His love of nature was a key factor in his continued interest in landscape and later, wildlife photography. Fred has traveled throughout Florida to capture the unique beauty of its flora and fauna.

His experiences with film and cinematography in college led him to add videography to his skill set. He has worked on several educational projects that combined elements of photography and videography. As a result of these experiences, he spent 6 years teaching video production to middle school students in the Pinellas County School District. He returned to college to pursue an M.Ed. in Instructional Technology. He currently teaches network support and is the IT Department chair at Pinellas Technical College in Clearwater, Florida.

Fred has worked with Jim Caldwell as co-host of The Fotobug Podcast since 2009. He has been a workshop leader at the Black Hills Photo Shootout and assisted in the launching of the Tampa Bay Photo Shootout as well as being a workshop leader.
